Scholarship Application Guide
The information below explains the eligibility requirements and provides a step-by-step guide for completing the scholarship application. Please read everything carefully before starting, so you can submit a complete and successful application.
Eligibility Requirements:
Before submitting an application, please make sure that all of the following criteria are met. Applications that do not meet the eligibility requirements cannot be considered.
- You must be a graduating high school senior, and either you or your parents/guardians must be affiliated with the AHEPA Family or the Greek Orthodox Church within the Greater Washington, DC Metropolitan Area.
- You must be graduating from a high school located within the Greater Washington, DC Metropolitan Area.
- You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (a “B” average or better).
- You should have participated in extracurricular activities and/or participated in competitive athletic programs.
How Your Application Will Be Evaluated
Independent evaluators will review your application based on the following:
• Grade Point Average (GPA)
• ACT/SAT Scores
• AP and/or IB Courses and Exam Results
• Academic Awards & Honors
• Knowledge of the Greek Language
• Extracurricular Activities
• Athletic Achievements
• Personal Statement of Accomplishments
These categories help provide a complete picture of your academic, athletic, personal, and community involvement.
Completing the Application: Step-by-Step
- Download and complete the Fillable Scholarship Application.
- Obtain required signatures before uploading and submitting completed application.
- Towards the end of the Fillable Scholarship Application, you will be asked to gather any relevant paper documents that are not digitized. Ensure they are in good condition (no staples, tears, or excessive wrinkles). Use a scanner to create digital copies of them, upload them with a completed application.
- Carefully go through every section to ensure all necessary information is filled out accurately, including any required documents, to avoid missing anything important and potentially jeopardizing your application.
Part I – Personal Information (Lines 1-7)
Provide your personal details as requested.
Important: Write your name exactly as you want it to appear on your scholarship award plaque.
Part II – Academic Information (Lines 8-14)
You will upload your official transcript and any other required documents in Part VI. In this section, you will:
• Provide your cumulative GPA as listed on your transcript.
• List your SAT and/or ACT scores.
• List any AP or IB courses you have taken, along with exam results.
• List any academic honors or awards you have received, including participation in special academic programs.
• Provide information on your knowledge of the Greek language, if applicable. (You may upload Greek Language Certification Exam results (Levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, or C2.)
Part III – Extracurricular Activities (Lines 15-16)
If you need more space, you may upload an additional sheet with your application.
Fine Arts & Clubs
Examples include:
• Science or language clubs
• Debate team
• Club leadership roles
• Student government
• School publications (yearbook, newspaper)
• Peer mediation or tutoring
• Orchestra, band, dance groups, theatre productions (cast or crew)
Community Service (AHEPA Family, Church, or General Community)
Examples include:
• Maids of Athena or Sons of Pericles involvement
• Altar boy, choir, Sunday School volunteer
• GOYA activities or Oratorical Festival
• Church festival volunteer
• Charity fundraising
• Volunteering (soup kitchens, food and/or clothing drives, community events)
• Camp counselor, Scouts, babysitting, etc.
Part IV – Athletic Information (Line 17)
If you need more space, you may upload an additional sheet with your application. Please list your participation in sports, including:
• Sport and years of participation
• Varsity letters earned
• Individual awards (e.g., MVP, team captain)
• League/District, City/County, State/Metropolitan honors
• Any postseason All-American recognition
Part V – Personal Statements & Future Plans (Lines 18-19)
This information will be used for your introduction during the scholarship award presentation.
You will list:
• Your 3-4 proudest accomplishments from high school
• Your future academic plans, including:
a. Intended field of study or degree program.
b. Name of the college or university you plan to attend
Part VI – Required Signatures (Lines 20-21)
These signatures must be obtained before submitting your application.
Community Signature
One of the following must sign to confirm membership or good standing:
• Your Parish Priest
• An AHEPAN/DOP Chapter Officer
• An Award Committee member
Student Signature
You will sign to certify that:
• All information in your application is true and correct
• You meet all eligibility criteria
Submitting Your Application
Before uploading and submitting your completed application:
• Make sure all sections are fully completed.
• Ensure your supporting documents are clear and readable. If your documents are not digital, scan them and upload with your application.
• Review your entire application to prevent missing information or documents that could delay evaluation.
