Washington Metropolitan Area AHEPA-DOP Scholarship Program

Scholarship Application and Instructions

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
  1. Graduating high school senior who with their parents and/or guardians are affiliated with either the AHEPA family or the Greek Orthodox Church within the jurisdiction of the Greater Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area.
  2. Graduating high school senior within the jurisdiction of the Greater Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area.
  3. Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (a “B” average or better).
  4. Participated in extracurricular activities and/or lettered or received awards in varsity interscholastic sports.

  • Personal Statement of Accomplishments
Completing the Application
  1. Download and complete the Fillable Scholarship Application.
  2. Obtain required signatures before uploading and submitting completed application.
  3. Towards the end of the Fillable Scholarship Application, you will be asked to gather any relevant paper documents that are not digitized. Ensure they are in good condition (no staples, tears, or excessive wrinkles). Use a scanner to create digital copies of them, upload them with a completed application.
  4. Carefully go through every section to ensure all necessary information is filled out accurately, including any required documents, to avoid missing anything important and potentially jeopardizing your application.
Part I – Personal Information – Lines 1 through 7

 Include your name as you want it to appear on the award plaque.

Part II – Academic Information – Lines 8 through 14 (upload official and other forms as instructed in Part VI)
  • From transcript, provide cumulative grade point average at the time of this application 
  • SAT/ACT Scores
  • From transcript, provide Advanced Placement (AP) and/or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses and examinations
  • Provide awards and honors received for academic achievement; identify participation in special academic programs 
  • Knowledge of Greek Language. If applicable, provide Greek Language Certification Exams, e.g., Levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.
Part III – Extracurricular Activity Information – lines 15 and 16 (provide additional sheet if necessary and upload with completed application)
  • Fine Arts and/or Clubs – Identify involvement in fine arts and/or clubs, for example: Science, language, debate, club offices, student government, school publications (e.g., year book, school newspaper), peer mediation, counseling, tutoring, orchestra or band, dance group, theatrical productions (e.g., cast, crew)
  • Community Service – (AHEPA Family and Church-related), for example: Membership and/or leadership positions in Maids of Athena or Sons of Pericles; Altar boy, choir, Sunday School teacher, GOYA, Oratorial Festival, Church festival volunteer. Other community service, for example: Charity fundraising, volunteering (e.g., soup kitchen, clothing/food drives, Meals on Wheels), Camp counselor, Girl or Boy Scouts, babysitting, etc.
PART IV – Athletic Information – line 17 (provide additional sheet if necessary and upload with completed application) 

For interscholastic varsity sports, specify sport and year, identify letters, individual achievement awards (e.g., most valuable player, team captain, etc.), All League/District, City/County, State/Metropolitan, or Post-season All-American teams/honors.

PART V – Personal Statements and Future Plans – lines 18 and 19 (will be used for the introduction when receiving your scholarship award)
  • Proudest Accomplishments in High School – List 2-4 accomplishments of which you are most proud
  • Future Plans – identify the field of study or degree program and name of the college/university you plan to attend.
PART VI – Signatures – lines 20 and 21 (MUST be signed prior to submission of application)
  • Community Signatures: Priest to attest that parent or guardian is a current steward of the church; or AHEPAN/DOP member currently in good standing; or Award Committee Member 
  • Student Signature certifying that the information in the application is true, correct, and meets eligibility criteria.

If mailing completed application, mail original plus three (3) copies of the completed application; 1 copy of official high school transcripts in a sealed and unopened envelope addressed directly to the AHEPA Awards Committee; and official copies of the following documents: ACT, SAT scores, AP/IB scores, Greek school diploma and Greek/Other Language certificates to: Washington Metropolitan Area AHEPA Awards Committee, 903 Holly Creek Drive, Great Falls, VA 22066
